Day 11 of 30-Days of Running to Rediscovering Freedom

A Lazy Day in Lake Louise: I woke up quite early, went to the kitchen and made some coffee. It was cloudy and gloomy in Lake Louise on Sep 22, and weather like this always gives me headaches. I did not want to move and was getting worried that I will not be able to join Su on the long hike we had planned for today. Even the coffee did not help.

Su joined me soon, and he (to my relief) seemed very lethargic as well. He looked like how I felt. We assembled a big breakfast to get ourselves moving, only in vain.

So we spent our day on the lounge of the hostel. I caught up with the blog posts and some work, and Su worked too.

After a few hours, we finally did make ourselves move, and this time made ourselves a big lunch. Rice, a can of tuna and boiled carrots, radishes and green beans and, of course, some butter. I am not sure if the food was actually good, or everything just tastes better when you are travelling!

A little energized after another strong cup of instant coffee, we went to a sports store in the village and bought ourselves a “bear bell”, getting ready for Jasper. Bear sighting is quite common in that area apparently, so we started planning (for once). After that, to fill in the daily quota of kilometers, we ended up hiking 6.4 km back and forth a trail and got a glimpse of Bow river one more time. It was still drizzling a little. The air seemed even fresher, and the sun seemed to play hide and seek with the clouds.

After about an hour, we got back to the hostel and moved into another room. Finally a private room for the two of us! And it was a “duplex”!! We took this opportunity to unpack everything and do laundry (we almost had no clean clothes left).

Before I end, I should also say that till now we still had no idea of how we would get to Jasper the next day. The night before we had put up (i) a note on the board in the lobby on the hostel asking for a ride, (ii) a post on facebook and (iii) an advertisement on rideshare.ca. Backup plan  – “Brewster”, ridiculously expensive (~$167).
